Fires within mountain communities are a constant threat. Each homeowner should be knowledgeable of the risks and take steps to mitigate that risk on their property for the benefit of the entire community. Over the years, the District has worked to remove overgrowth in open space and along roads to assure residents can safely evacuate should the need arise. The following presentation and report provide valuable information for our specific area.
A recent trial evacuation of Genesee and Riva Chase illustrated the need for alternate emergency routes out of our area. Genesee has only two major exits for over 1200 homes so traffic on Genesee Ridge Road will quickly become very congested. Planning for an exit out of our area onto Grapevine or Shingle Creek Roads through the emergency gates will likely be the fastest route to safety.
